HORACE EDWIN CLEELAND
Researched by Peter Cleeland

The son of Francis Cleeland and Sarah Jane Moor born in 1878. He married Lillian Susannah Morton in Adelaide on the 17th. of October 1907. They had four children. Their marriage certificate lists the occupation of Horace as a miner from Broken Hill and Lillian as a Tailoress from Melbourne. Arthur Cleeland, the brother of Horace was a witness and his occupation is listed as a miner from Broken Hill. My earliest recollection of my grandparents were when they lived at Launching Place, near Warburton. Horace had a horse drawn gig. My father, and his brother Horace, had a corrugated iron house with an earth floor on a block next to their parents house. It was quite a trip to travel to Launching Place. My father had a Auburn motor car and in the war years had built himself a gas producer which sat on the rear of the car belching fumes. There were several hills on the trip which required us to leave the car and help push it up the hill. The Launching Place primary school centenary booklet lists, 1926 - 1929 William Ford and Frank Cleeland. 1929 - 1935 Clive Cleeland. 1942 - 1945 William Cleeland. The four children of Horace and Lillian are:

Horace born 1908, deceased.
Myrtle born 1909
Daphne born 1914, deceased.
Robert born 1911
